Child support disputes often turn on two things: the state formula and each parent’s time with the child. Income can become a battleground, especially with bonuses, overtime, self-employment earnings, or second-job wages. A parent cannot expect to lower support by quitting a job or cutting work hours. The court may instead calculate payments using that parent’s work history and available jobs.
