Child support disputes often hinge on two factors: the state formula and each parent’s time with the child. Income can become a contested issue, especially when it includes bonuses, overtime, self-employment earnings, or second-job wages. A parent cannot expect to reduce support by quitting a job or cutting work hours. The court may instead calculate payments based on that parent’s work history and available jobs.
